Befana - Epiphany in Italy is celebrated differently to what it is known in Poland. Festivals and fairs are organized, and in most of the cities, on the main squares, the famous ‘burning of the witches’ takes place. On this day, well behaved children receive small presents and sweets in a sock from the Witch (Calza). And badly behaved children get coal in their socks instead of the sweets (Carbone).

Piazza San Pietro - St. Peter's Square - a solemn Mass celebrated by the Pope and Papal Blessing URBI ET ORBI – to City and the World, which is said in several dozen languages, live broadcast in many countries in the world.
FLORENCE Scoppio dei Cargo - Piazza dei Duomo - cart with flowers and fireworks is blown up at noon by mechanical dove which flies (along the wire) from main altar in catedral to the square in front of the catedral. The parade in historical dresses goes along the city streets.
SULMONA Festa della Madonna che Scappa – holiday in which Madonna runs away along the streets to the main city square.

Investitura dei Capitani Reggenti della Repubblica – historical holiday which commemorates feud granting to San Marino rulers (holiday takes place twice a year: 1st April and in September).

Festa di S. Pietro e Paolo – an important religious celebration in honour of Rome patrons; many priviligies for all Peters&Pauls. Basilica S. Pietro – St. Peter's Basilica – the St. Peter's bronze statue is dressed in purple papal coat, Golden Tiara (papal crown) and papal ring. Basilica S. Paolo fuori le Mura – Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls – huge church fair in the basilica area, fireworks show in the evening.

Gioco dei Ponte - "battle on the bridge" - fight in the medieval dresses on Ponte di Mezzo.

Palio delle Contrade – the most famous festival in Italy (live broadcast on Italian TV). Exercises with banners show; players wear the medieval clothes. Bare-back horse racing around Piazza del Campo; after that the victorious Contrade (district) organizes food and wine to the folk music till down (racing takes place twice a year: 2nd July and 16th August).

ASCOLI PICENO
Torneo Cavalleresco delia Quintana – The Knight's Tournament; knights represent different districts of the city wear 14th century armours fight the duels for the title: the winner of the tournament (the tournament takes place twice a year: 2nd Saturday of July and 1st Sunday of August).

VENICE
Festa del Redentore – to comemmorate the finish of plague in 1576 they throw a pontoon bridge across Canale Guidecca, which joins Venice with Redeemer Church. The participants of the festival organize traditional picnics on the boats. At midnight - briliant fireworks show over St. Mark pool. Saturday – religious celebrations and rowing regatta.

Festa dei Noantri – Zatybrze – 8 days of street parties, shows, performances, feasts on the open air and folk music in the colourful district Trastevere.
